But I recently lost my auto-login, when I clicked on login, it went to "my home" but still showed me as logged out. Clearing the cookies seemed to help.

I (and a few others) have been having the exact same problem with GameArenas forums, and the same thing again, clearing the cookies helps. So its safe to say it isnt the website.

I had the same with other forums. Clearing my cookies didn;t help. But when I uninstalled Google Webaccelerator (which I had been running for just 2 days), everything went back to normal.
