I was in a conversation last night with a girl and she asked me why I am so soft spoken. Why don't I ever swear on a consistent rate. This was my response with a little bit more detail.

I find those who swear on such a consistent level do not sound very intelligent. They simply sound like street monkeys who seem to have very short vocabularies. It doesn't mean that I cancel these words out but it simply means I use them in the proper context and situation. I just can't stand those who use the word "fuck" 5 times in one sentence! There are so many words with such powerful descriptive uses that they are an awesome exibit of the human mind and imagination. It would be a waste of Lesser Magic to not utilize them.

If you aren't able to produce words from the english language then I suggest you pick up the dictionary and begin reading! The english dictionary houses thousands of words and is one of my personal favorite books. I would much rather sound like a well spoken individual than a moronic idiot in highschool.

The Burden of Communication.

Natcherly, bein' a staunch believer in a spot o' educashon fo' de young black kids, I is bin' hollerin' fo' dese teachers an' assorted misso'naries to be teachin' wot genrally called in Engaland de Queen's English.

Lotta damn vulgar language gittin' spoke all aroun' de worl' an' gittin' passed off as de normal figure of de speech, an' too many o' dese politikally correc' pussons pokin' in de conk into educashional affairs.

Some o' dese fuckers betta be watchin de necks, otherwise de heads gonna be gittin' separated fro' de shoulders.

I don't know about Queen's English, but it sounds like you already know Queens English.

In all things, moderation.

After all: As the proverb says, "Profanity is the crutch of inarticulate motherfuckers."

Or, another favorite: "Brevity is the soul of wit, shithead."

Actaully there was a perfect example of the idea of swear or at least usual words one could easily use in place of common swear words to add more tact and style to one's vocabulary from Cloven Hoof Issue#129. The article is titled Gramarye: Magical Anarchronism. A highlight from the article.

" Dr. LaVey has written at some length about the power of ECI and time suspension. He's also written at least one article about using English as a secret language-archaic or obscure words that others would be unfamilair with. All of this ties into creating total environments and empowering yourself through isolation. Artists, "Bohemians", "free thinkers", have always distanced themselves from the mainstream in order to gain a clearer perspective on what they wish to portray about the world. It is also implied that they have been to the boundaries of human experience and it has marked them in some monstrous way, stripping them of the connection to humanity they once enjoyed. There are rarefied pockets in the world in which bold individuals seek to create anarchronistic environemnts for themselves."

"Speech is an easily-controlled supplement to anachronistic living. We get many letters, often from well-intentioned but uninformed would-be Satanists, often from Europe where they try to adopt American slang as a form of being hep, usually written in pen on lined paper, which run something like this: "Hey, Dark Brothers! I think the Chruch of Santan is fuckin' awesome!!!! I want you to send me all the fuckin' information you can so I can join the fuckin' fight to killing off all these fuckin' Chrisitans!!!!!!!! Jesus suks and I get sick of all these fuckers fuckin' with me. HAIL SATIN!!!!!

Source of information is from The Cloven Hoof Issue #129 page #27.

Note the misspellings and often the overuse of using common curse words. Which point out rudeness and a short sense of vocabulary and even individual style. The article goes on to list a rather long and detailed list of forgotten past slang terms that could easily be used in place even today of overused curse words. If you have access to Cloven Hoof issues reading this complete article is worth it. I just thought about this in a Cloven Hoof issue, while reading this thread I thought some highlights would come in hand. Some old day forgotten slang terms.

"For the Love of Mike"
"Well, Blow me down"
"Son of a Gun"
"Holy Moses"
"Heavens To Betsy"
"For Crying out loud"
"Leaping Lizards"
"Well, I'll be"

There are lots more over 140 phrases and old time slang words totally forgotten today, some still in use but not being used in proper contexts. Use the term "Jumping Lizards" or "Aw, Figs" in place of modern curse words and notice the looks you get when not resulting to everyday foul language usage. I am sure doing some digging might turn up interesting words, even with access to internet will reveal even more interesting phrases and slang words.

As a friend of mine said about an idiot who lives down the hall, "You know how a lot of people use "um" or "like" as a filler? I think 'fuck' is his filler."

For me, it's about how words are used, and how often, and in what context. I don't mind someone who swears passionately, provided the rest of what they're trying to convey isn't utterly dumb, provided that an obscenity isn't every other word, and provided they could stop swearing or use proper language if they chose to or if the situation called for it.

But, constant swearing--as well as a few other verbal cues--act as red flags reading, 'I am an ineloquent numbnut with a limited imagination and an even more limited vocabulary."

But, swearing and slang in themselves aren't bad, and can be quite useful. I use all kinds of slang terms, mostly for funny emphasis.
