Upon rereading the chapter THE GOD YOU SAVE MAY BE YOURSELF in The Satanic Bible, I came accross a passage that I am just making sure I am understanding the context it was used in.

Therefore, HE IS WORSHIPPING BY PROXY THE MAN THAT INVENTED GOD.

The context as I took it used in that passage means man as in mankind. EDIT: Man kind's way of thinking during the time that God was invented. Of course when narrowing it down, the personal interpretations vary, so if you serve the God of another human beings personal interpretation you could be serving the God of that specific individuals meaning. Thus serving that individual.

If you worship Communism then you are probably worshipping by proxy Karl Marx.

If you worship Republicanism then you are probably worshipping by proxy Abraham Lincoln.

The point is that an individual created each of these abstract ideas: Communism, Republicanism, God.

The source is always some individual.

The next sentence in The Satanic Bible explains why this is important to understand and suggests skipping the middleman (God) and simply worshipping yourself.
