I doubt if many will agree, and maybe it's been brought up before. But I think the ability to change handle names should be removed except on a somewhat as needed basis. For instance, lets say someone was promoted within the CoS and wished to be called Priestess Mary Doe, instead of just Mary Doe. Or if someone's having an online security issue.

I often will recall some great ideas or essays that I've read, go look for them, and not only has the person changed their avatar, but they've selected some obscure new nickname. I'm less likely to remember the title of the post/thread than the name of the person who created it.

Just my two cents.

Instead of throwing out the whole idea, perhaps there should be an added caption below one's avatar or in their profile stating a poster's previous display name.
