So I am interested in these weird question/threads. I have noticed alot of cat lovers here. If you are a dog lover what breed do you love or what breed do you associate with.

Me? Pekingese. I am short and stocky and square. I have long beautiful hair and I am loyal, stubborn and mean when I need to be.

So? Who are you?

Huskies. They're quiet and gentle for the most part but there's something so intimidating and striking about the bleach white eyes.

Afghan Hound: graceful, fast, intelligent, headstrong. Forms very deep bonds with their humans, easily depressed if neglected; rather sensitive to how their humans act towards them, yet wholly uncaring about the rest of the world.

I like this thread, by the way. I love dogs and cats equally and for quite different reasons, but it's good to see some dog lovers

They're extremely smart, very social, good natured, and they never seem to run out of energy. I love dogs and cats the same, but I'm allergic to long haired cats, so I can only admire them from a distance.

An interesting question.

I'd say that I identify with the Pharaoh Hound. They're intelligent, calm, and independent. They are known to be reserved with strangers, but affectionate with family. They are not demonstrative, but dignified.

I had to look up the Afghan Hound!

They look like long haired salukis. Do you own any Afghans? The upkeep on that hair looks like it would be quite something! I really liked your description of their temperment.

Maybe it's because grew up owning Yorkshire Terriers that I admire this breed the most. They have virtually no concept of their diminutive size. They can be fiercely territorial and will go after other creatures much larger than themselves. They're highly loyal little dogs and are quite affectionate.

Chihuahua.

Yup, sounds like Me!

Temperament

Chihuahuas are prized for their devotion, ferocity and personality. Their curious nature and small size make them easily adaptable to a variety of environments, including the city and small apartments. Chihuahuas are often stereotyped as high-strung, though it has been shown that correct training and socialization can result in an outstanding companion animal.

Chihuahuas are not well-suited as small children's pets because of their size, temperament and tendency to bite when frightened. Also, many Chihuahuas focus their devotion on one person, becoming overly jealous of that person's human relationships. This can be mitigated through socialization. Chihuahuas also tend to have a "clannish" nature, often preferring the companionship of other Chihuahuas over other dogs. Chihuahuas also seem to have no concept of their own size and may fearlessly confront larger animals, which can result in injury.

Incidentally, three of these little buggers OWN ME!

That is really cute! I got my Peke a Godzilla costume once because he kind of reminds me of Stitch from Lilo and Stitch.

Yeah, it lasted for about five seconds before he had it torn off and in pieces. Sometimes when dogs get dressed up they look so humiliated, But this guy actually looks like he's having fun!

I read this on wiki,

"Bitch has long been in use to refer to a woman in contempt, as shown in an 1811 dictionary which describes bitch as "the most offensive appellation that can be given to an English woman, even more provoking than that of whore"."

I thought to myself, "That's not Lex....she's Canadian"

I've read the same thing about Yorkshire Terriers - that they have no concept of their small size and go after larger dogs. My Peke is the same way although he never tries to attack larger dogs. He wants to play with them and usually ends up freaking out the much larger dog. When he was a puppy my little guy's best friend was a huge black lab next door named "Zeus". Zeus was like a small horse. And he would literally roll my Peke around like a soccer ball. My guy loved it!

A German Shepherd of course. They are extremely noble, intelligent, loyal, and last, but not least beautiful dogs.

I love dogs and cats equally, although now that I have had the pleasure of a humongous puppy thrashing around my house as well as three mortified cats, I have to say the cats are way easier to raise.

Cool thread, by the way.

So I am interested in these weird question/threads. I have noticed alot of cat lovers here. If you are a dog lover what breed do you love or what breed do you associate with.
So? Who are you?

Heh, funny. I noticed 't is true how dogs and their owners grow to look alike after a while indeed, so after almost eight years of being together with a German Shepherd, I must have some features alike - though I often suspect the dogs take over aspects of their master as well. Mine is shorthair German Shepherd of a working line breed [manswork /obedience/scent work], mainly black, growing a little grey around the nose - here we go, though the grey isn't around my nose but temples. We have about the same size of ego, which in my case doesn't exactly match my actual size, in her case it certainly does; she is at the border of as how large a German Shepherd is allowed to be. We are fierce defenders of our home & loved ones and though we may easily yet superficially mingle with others, we prefere to stick to our own. We are loyal and honest to the bone. In fight we forget all about size or numbers; when needed we will attack no matter who is in front of us, and we will win. We are muscled and trained yet no bulldog in appearance. We have an uncanningly well scenting ability and are in fact constantly alert. When not finding enough challenges to our intelligence, we may turn to clowns - we have a good sense of humor but it may be a bit malicious. My dog, like myself, may appear to be neutrally checking out on someone and then all of a sudden turn 'em off - maybe because of a scent, a sound, a certain movement. We are sensitive, at times slightly hypersensitive. We are energetic. We love many kinds of food but have very sensitive stomach and bowels and therefore must take much care in what we eat and what not; skin allergies, intoxication are easily there as well. But we both survived more than one near-dead experience/ anafylaxis. We can endure a lot of pain but do not seek it. We have great endurance ability. We are playfull and happy overall.
Now, what I think my dog has adopted from me; when she's with my daughter she is MUCH more social than when she's with me. When we're together we best stay away from others [man and dog], but my daughter reports playing time with other dogs I wouldn't even dare dream of. My daughter also reports having smalltalk with other dog-owners I wouldn't think about starting in the first place. I do not have smalltalk with other dog owners, except for a few carefully selected ones. I'm afraid I tend to get into conflicts with other dogowners rather easily. My dog responds the same as her guide in both circumstances.
What I learned from her: German Shepherds are always talking - my next one is going to be named Chewbacca, as I playfully already call my Vlad at times. My trainer tought me to talk back to my dog, I tended to hold my tongue too much. I must talk back. They enjoy it!

Though we are going to be together forever, aftter this dog I want another German Shepherd, as I have grown to love this breed an awfull lot. It's size, intelligence and humour that I find mostly attractive, with the very fine character that comes with the German Shepherd. Brave, bold, stubborn at times, independant, funny, and still so extremely loyal to it's pack. I haven't had as much fun with human companions as I had with my German Shepherd and she has proven to be the most thrusthworthy of them all.

"Noble" is exactly the word that comes to mind when I think of German Shepherds! And the work they do for police amazes me always. I like cats and dogs equally as well and I can picture your big puppy racing through your house! I said somewhere else that my dog's favourite past time is waiting to bulldoze into the cats at full speed. I likened it to mini cow tipping.

Oh I agree with this definitely! I just replied to Dragondancer that German Shepherds are indeed a noble breed. I loved your description and comparisons. I had no idea how chatty they were though!

This was very eloquent. I know exactly what you mean about dogs being more trustworthy than humans. Thanks so much for sharing this!

Well, I guess I'd be a dog that is well known from the area of England from where I originate. I'd be a long-tailed, blonde-haired super runt (proper scientific name: Jeez-didi-fucus). Not one for sucking on bones but will chase pussy until the cows come home. Woof, woof, grrrrrrrrr.

I am a Dachshund. I am short, and have a long weiner. My name is Vlad the Impaler, but of course I realize all that is way too much information.

Other characteristics include fierce loyalty while simultaneously thinking that I am better than everyone else around me, and always willing to stand up and fight for myself and those I love, no matter how big the other dog is.

Alaskan Malamute.

I love this dog breed, one day I'll have one. I love the snow and so do they.

I really don't know. I don't think so, I've always thought of Huskies as being crossbreeds of other dogs to produce sled dogs.

My family had 12 acres when we had my border collie. Unfortunately we lived on a horse farm. Only "unfortunately" because the border collie loved to herd the horses. He was a natural. But rather than have him get kicked in the head and possibly killed we found him a new home. Broke my heart. They are wonderful, intelligent, beautiful dogs.

Great Dane;
The Great Dane is an intelligent and affectionate dog. They can become very close and loyal to the family and close family friends that are frequent visitors.
They get on well with other dogs, household pets and children. They are ideally suited to the active family. They are quick to alert the family of any strangers approaching their territory, as they are excellent guard dogs, although they do not bark very much.

I own a Dane and she is the darn best dog I ever had. Being a tall guy myself I would look stupid with a smaller breed and the Dane character just suits me; very easygoing and curious to learn new things.
They look very intimidating but they are actually big lapdogs and make friends easily unless they really don't trust it.
If my dog does not like somebody I can assume that there really is something wrong. She alerted me a couple of times before and has been right every time.

I love Danes, I knew one in my childhood neighborhood. Very gentle. All of the kids on the street loved her but the parents, curiously, were the big scaredy cats. It was fun as a child walking up to a dog that was roughly my height.

After a little research this is what I've discovered so far. Alaskan Malamutes are a breed itself(that fits me well) as for the Siberian Husky. Alaskan Huskies are a mix of many different breeds.

Well I've been around and owned more Pit Bulls than anything. And they are very intellegent dogs. Great family dogs and good with kids, very territorial, and not very good with strangers. Simply put (cross the line and your ass is mine) type deal.

I identify closely with Foxes, I am very fox-like in that I am monogomous, can be incredibly cunning, and not to mention I can mimic the movements of the fox. Hell, I am even working on a Fox-style martial art.

If we are talking domesticated gods, I mean, dogs, I would say the Pomeranian. Short, cute and mean as hell.

One of the adorable freaks at the kennel I work at is a dog-shaped hairball (I mean Pom). Dusty is a three-legged puffball of fierceness. He doesn't bother other little dogs but if a Big Dog comes 'round he lets loose a tirade-frenzy of barking obscenities like I've never heard before.

And he's not all bark, he takes after the big guys like he's going to eat them, hobbling just as fast as can be on all three little legs. Once, he frightened a (relatively) giant husky so bad the dog stopped right where he was and peed for ten full minutes. Dusty literally scared the piss out of him. Tough little bugger, impossible not to respect that kind of moxie. smile

Here's another classic of Pom cuteness: Spudgy. (After seeing this for the first time, I added "spudgy" to my personal dictionary as an adjective for extreme exhaustion. Believe me, I can relate.)

Dusty sounds lovely. Isn't it funny how often a small Dog can spook a very large Dog.

Spudgy is so cute! Thank you for posting.

I'm going to watch him for a third time.

I'd probably be a mini English Bull terrier - not too bright, but stubborn and with a string bite! Once I gotcha, I won't let go!

I have cats but I really like dogs.
Growing up we had a husky wolf cross. He was quite big and solid black with white paws and a white splash on his chest. Beautiful. He was a gentle dog but very protective of me. Once my dad slapped me in front of the dog and he attacked my dad. Took 111 stitches to close the wounds but he never slapped me in front of the dog again.

Someday when I have a house I may get a dog but for now, it's cats.
