To view this thread in so called "Flat Mode" just go to "Topic Options" (above the subject, next to "new reply") and click "Switch to Flat Mode".

Yes, the grey/black will return. Currently the Blue/Black, Grey/Black, and Red/Black are the three styles you will be able to choose from hopefully next week.
