I am an electronica producer and I would really like to get my song on this forum. I don't have a website to link to and I am wondering if there is no other way.

If there is no other way, I am curious how I go about setting up an fttp site to post them on. Much thanks in advance for the info.

It looks like mp3.com has gone under at the moment. I guess they are dealing with renovations and what not. Great suggestion though.

Look for the Australian MP3.com website in a search engine. It's much better than the US version, is still up, and has much better music anyway.

I am unsure, but it might be considered advertisement. To be safe, I'd ask Reverend Ventrue for permission first.

There are always places like geocities, who will host any kind of file, and free hosting will certainly send a message to your listeners.

As unusual as it may sound, you could also try using a search engine like google (google.com), and doing a search for mp3 host. You will find plenty of places that will let you put up your mp3s.

...Since you are a producer, you could always try to get your own music hosted on one of your artists' websites.

No no no... I wish I was a "PRODUCER" producer, like the guy who gets all the credit for the movie. It's common for electronic musicians to refer to themselves as producers even though we are just artists. I hadn't really thought about the implications of that until now.

I actually just found a site that will host my music so I am set in this department. Thanks to all who gave me ideas.

What is a "producer" producer anyway?

The guy with all the connections. The guy who finds an artist, shells out the money for the recording, promotes and cashes in on the earnings. The guy who lives in the mansion with a ferrari. An example of a producer is Ross Robinson, the guy who produced Korn, Slipknot, Glassjaw, Limp Bizkit, and a bunch of other famous rock bands. Just like a movie producer, he has all the funds, all the smarts, and not necissarily any of the talent.

I think talent is something that's ESSENTIAL to a music producer. It is the producer's job to breath life into the audio recording. It is their job to know what the artist is trying to achieve and pick the best approach to the recording and mixing of that artist's songs. Take Nirvana's albums "Nevermind" and "In Utero" for example. Nevermind was given a crystal clear production sound by Butch Vig with good separation of the instruments and a general MTV-friendly sheen. In Utero, on the otherhand, was produced by Steve Albini who tried to record each son live as much as possible, placing microphones everywhere and then carefully selecting the ones he wanted and balancing their output to get the right mix. Thus In Utero has a "dirtier" more looser vibe to it. They were the best chosen techniques for the music and each album wouldn't have sounded as good if the techniques had been reversed. Often the artist will chose a producer that specialises in getting a specific sound, but whatever the producer's range, it is their talent that gets the sound onto CD.

In many ways, the music producer makes or breaks the record.
