I recently received a bulletin on my myspace page from a person who was trying to start some huge movement to get Satanism as an option for religious preference on the myspace personal settings.
Personally, I think it's a worthless and downright stupid cause. Who cares that I have to mark the "other" box on some dumb profile? I don't think they'll ever change it, and if they did, it's not like all the Satanists would get a pretty little certificate or something.
What do you think about this? Is it worth the effort to try to get it changed? Isn't that Tom guy busy enough with spam and password stealers?

I suggest you check out the topic "Peoples reactions to your religion", it covers much of what people in here has to say about publicly acknowledging your conviction or CoS membership.

If it bothers people, they should find a friend who knows how to play with coding.

What difference does it make what label shows up in that little profile box, when you have so many other ways to show what you really are? - Maybe because there isn't any substance to this person worth showing.

Or for that matter, why does this person worry about MySpace politics?

I probably just don't get it. Maybe there's something fascinating about the whole MySpace kick that I'm not hip too.

Sounds like your friend is an attention whore. Not that that's a bad thing, but I doubt they're trying to get this movement going for any reason other than the ruffle feathers. I could be wrong, but that's what it sounds like to me.

For the one MySpace profile of mine that refers to Satanism, I simply clicked "other" in the profile and slapped the CoS Member graphic in "About Me."

I do actually understand the logic behind wanting it changed, I just don't think I would bother for my own profile.

All I have to say is this...I do not remember who it was...I could go back and check, but I won't.

What I do remember is that it is someone I know from here. And, I remember it is someone I liked...as much as that is possible online. Therefore, I will not knock it.

It is a dumb idea for many reasons.

If one wants others to know he is a Satanist, what's so hard about saying so somewhere else on his profile?

There are enough idiots pretending to be Satanists.

Why make it any easier?

Nothing. Probably just threatened to sue if it wasn't added.
