Well...it still sounds like fun.

It was! There were about 20-30 people with lots of kids thumping around in snowsuits. We started out at the bottom of the park, singing Christmas carols, banging drums, and lighting lanterns.

The organizer had made himself a helmet with a small shiny disco ball on top and doll baby legs as horns! I told him I liked his tribute to Pan.

Then there was a procession through the thigh-high snow. Lucky I wore me handy-dandy long johns to keep warm. The clandestine shots of Kahlua from my mother's mickey helped also. We ended up at the center of the park where Pan had built a "Solstice Tree" out of snow which had small shelves carved out of it to put in tea candles.

After an interesting little Pagan/Mayan/Hippy/Environmentalist speech by our host, we were encouraged to light a candle and make a wish.

A very socialist theme arose with the wishes: fix child homelessness, feed the poor, support grass-roots organizations, be nice to everyone, recycle, world peace, etc. Although one young man did shout, "I wish people would dance and laugh more!!!"

I clapped after each one, although the only wish I really banged my drum loud and long for was the animal welfare wish. Some crazy lady with her beautiful arthritic husky had just found a very sympathetic landlord who let her a basement apartment with no steps and access to the yard. See? The Christmas spirit infects even those cold hearted money-obsessed landlords. ;\)

Then it was my turn to light a candle and make a wish. I said, "Well you all have some very noble wishes. Mine is much more close to home. Due to my recent acceptance into the honours program, this candle is a wish for the eventual completion of my PhD!"

Lots of clapping and banging of drums. A fine time had by all.

How utterly selfish of you. Bravo!
