Interesting question Mr./Mrs./Ms. Jack.
The answer is very simple; pragmatism. Some of us would rather not divulge our true identities to the general public for reasons that should be all too obvious.
Privacy is of great value to us so it stands to reason that we would take steps to guard it as I assume you have as well.
