VERY IMPORTANT!!

In the current (September 08) issue of Consumer Reports on page 47 there is a report on blood pressure monitors and glucometers. The results require action on the part of ANYONE with diabetes. The glucometers as a whole failed miserably. My doctor was almost apoplectic when he told us about it; this IS resulting in grossly incorrect treatment of diabetics, even with a functional practitioner.

I recommend that you get this particular issue off the newsstand and read the article. Your glucometer will probably need replacing. Since they make their money from the test strips, the meters are relatively inexpensive, and you can get a good deal; you did know that the test strips and lancets are usually covered by insurance, if you have a prescription for them??

The top most accurate glucometers:

The magazine has all sorts of other useful articles this month as well.

Thanks for the heads up Magistra Isabel! I have not been properly diagnosed but perhaps I should have been. This month my fasting blood glucose was 130, 2nd time 101. A1C 6.7 with a 3 month average of 160. So I am learning stuff right now.

Thanks again!

Evening Rain,

Happy to help.

Check out Ultrametabolism by Dr Mark Hyman. This will take you a long way towards healing your body and understanding what is going on.

His website is http://www.drhyman.com/ , and there is a physician finder somewhere on the first page, if you need it. He practices functional medicine: http://www.functionalmedicine.org/index.asp

I was diagnosed with diabetes well over ten years ago, and because I made lifestyle changes right away, I am healthier now than I was then. The doctor just discontinued my last diabetic medication this week. devilchili Dr Hyman describes in detail what my own physician had guided me to do, and why.

You have a lot of homework to do! I hope you are motivated to do it well. witch

The same issue (Sept. 08) of Consumer Reports also evaluated the various home blood pressure cuffs - almost all of whom are failures.

Those of you who are making health decisions based on reading your blood glucose or blood pressure need to pay attention to this!

If you use home devices to measure your condition that are useless, you are playing a fool's game.

Wise up now!
