I like to study relgion as a hobby; reading the mythical fables and comparing belief systems is very interesting to me. However, I do not follow any certain religion because there is not one that really resonates with me. In all of the ones I've studied thus far, there are things that are beautiful, but also terrible or silly things. For example, I like the Wiccan idea of respect for nature, but believe that their refusal (of the local coven, at least) to drink milk or eat cheese is silly.

I went into a book store and saw the Satanic Bible in Barnes & Noble and decided to buy it because I've never read any Satanic writings, but know the bare basics of Satanism. Interestingly, the back of the book had the genre listed as "Fantasy," which I find ridiculous and disrespectful.

I finished reading it today. I can identify with a lot its teachings, such as the idea that we must always question moral and religious authority, and that sexuality and the human body are okay and natural, not "dirty" or "gross."

I wouldn't call myself a Satanist. I don't like attaching labels, especially when I don't know what all the label entails. I am just here to observe and learn more about your religion.

First off, let Me say hello.

Hello.

At one point, I also liked to study various religions.

I wasn't so much looking for a path so to speak, I just wanted to be educated on the subjects (for various reasons).

Now, I had a question or two for you.

Quote:
I finished reading it today. I can identify with a lot its teachings,

What parts of the book did/could you not identify with?

You already stated that you don't consider yourself a Satanist. THIS IS FINE! Not everyone is a Satanist and that is OK.

What I would like to know is what you hope to
Quote:
observe and learn
about Satanism from an internet web board that could not be found within the very book that you possess?

One more question:

Are you looking for 'something'?

It appears that you might be based on what I have read. (Some parts beautiful, some parts terrible etc.)

If so, what is it that you are searching for?

"What parts of the book did/could you not identify with?"

To give an example, LaVey said that there was no other place the soul went to when the body died, but the spirit could remain earthbound if the ego was strong enough.

Parts of the book were unclear to me and left me with questions.

"Are you looking for 'something'?"

Not any more, not actively any way.

b.Parts of the book were unclear to me and left me with questions.

A. To my undestanding, this was to say that if you leave your mark on enough people in this world through your contributions and successes, that you would live on in their minds forever.

B. One of the things I found so intriguing about this book is that 99.9% is written exactly as it is. There are no parables, or riddles, etc. The parts that are open for interpretation, are noted as so by LaVey.

Upon my first reading, I saw myself. I think it was this way with most here. This is not to say others do not have a much more profound understanding than I, just sharing my personal experience.

I'd guess the other .01% is the "YANKEE ROSE" text huh? lol I don't know how many times I've thought over what is meant by that.

Thanks FC but I have seen that link a few times before. I know that Yankee Rose is the name of a song LaVey wrote, what I meant is that I wonder why he choose that text to end the satanic bible and what it was supposed to mean.

Thanks for posting the link though.

To inspire this conversation. Life after death through the fulfillment of ego. We will probably never know, but it will keep this conversation stimulating for decades to come.
