As a personality is something intangible, i'm going to have to ask you how you "see" it. It may echo through physical attributes, but if you google a Jenna Jameson video I think we both know you won't be watching her personalities bounce.

It will be quite something else that you are watching.

And what of people with multiple personality disorder?
Are you claiming you can see them all?

It is natural that lust first draws us to a mate. It is evolution that compatibility (and all those things that go with it)is what sustains a relationship.

'Feeling,' instinct and experience give us all an ability to correctly evaluate significant aspects of other peoples personalities at a glance, often before they open their mouths. This is obvious.

The question I was asking was 'which comes first for you when seeing a member of the opposite sex?'

Interestingly, the majority of individuals seem to put 'prettiness' before evaluating the personality at a first glance. This is interesting to me as the way women and men are evaluated changes drastically from one generation to the next and from one country to another.

My favourite example of this is the Elizabethan period where womens' ears were considered so visibly sexual they were covered up in art of the period e.g. http://www.1st-art-gallery.com/thumbnail/142497/1/Portrait-Of-A-Lady-In-Elizabethan-Dress.jpg

So in your crude 'porno' analogy, Elizabethans were desperate to catch a glimpse of an earlobe which to us, today, seems weird as we want to see breasts. Similarly, the older generations in my family had their feet bound because 25% of the world's population found small bound feet to be visually arresting. The most attractive Spartan women were physically strong as their society believed strong women bore strong children and were consequently considered attractive.

I'm veering towards the idea that our natural, animal instincts drive us to being genuinely attracted to someone whereas evaluating another individual on a media interpretation of 'prettiness' runs contrary to our more primitive selves. Media prettiness is faddish and is almost a distraction.

But hey, I'm just a 250lb meathead so what do I know?

I understand what you are saying.

I'm just saying, looks can be deceiving.

We first see with our eyes, which is then followed by our sex organs, and sometimes our hearts (if we are willing to be that vulnerable).

Granted 100% of the population projects who they are through their image, and therefore you CAN pick up the tell tell signs of what they are trying to project.

Some try TOO hard and you can pick up on that as well.

10 of that 100% is projecting an image that isn't at all who they are.And some people really don't think about what they are projecting. They just wear, what they wear.

And i've been compared to Abe Lincoln (looks wise). . .so what do I know cool

Damnit, I want to go for a beer with you, just to see the looks on the faces of the people in the bar when a 250lb meathead walks in there with Abe Lincoln.

Off subject i've noticed that for some reason skinnyh people and heavier set people gravitate towards one another as best friends. Like Chris Farley and David Spade for example. . .

Anyone else notice this?

I'm a visual person but looks certainly are not everything.
When it comes to dating of course I must be attracted to the person on a physical and mental level. If one or the other is lacking I become bored. Friendships are different for me, I don't care what the person looks like as long as we get along and they are interesting.

It explains why people are attracted to their opposites and even has a diagram for those who are visual learners -I'm about a six o'clock.

Physical attraction is very important to me, I might be shallow, but I can't be with someone unless I want them physically as well as emotionally.

Most people look skinny when they stand next to me. Maybe that's why my wife married me...

Mind you, it's all relative as in the UK or especially France my 250lbs stands out, even in my regular gym (not the boxing gym).

However, in the US, I feel small and except for comments on the size of my arms, there's always someone in the vicinity who dwarfs my measly 250lbs. Although, 'bigness' in the US does not always equate to muscle as there seem to be an alarming number of individuals unable to say 'no' to that third Big Mac with fries.

A total, complete and utter lack of discipline is such an unattractive personal characteristic.

Upon first meeting someone I pay attention to their body language. How they handle themselves is key for / to me. Typically speaking, if I'm considering approaching a woman in public, I won't do so right away. I'll step back, watch the way she handles herself with others around her, or whatever the case may be.

Once I've made the next step & I've actually approached her, one of the first things I notice are eyes. Eyes tell a lot about a person. I know this through trail & error mind you. To say one doesn't pay attention to looks in my opinion is a farce. Now, I don't put as much emphasis on this as I do their personality, however it is key for me to be attracted to the individual & in order to get to know someones personality better, I have to be interested in the first place, depending on what I'm seeking, looks may play a factor prior to this too. On the other hand, I'm now involved with someone, so if I were to approach someone it would be on different terms.

Say the individual has a Lucio Fulci "Zombie" (1979) shirt on. I may approach them in hopes of being able to discuss Italian horror on a greater level. When you break it all down though, the secret to longevity in any kind of relationship is communication & the way I feed off of the other individual & vice-versa is extremely important to me.

In my opinion, all of these factors prove to be important, however the core of something with validity though has to have some substance behind it, which comes down to a damn good personality in which I can relate to / click with.
