http://www.lompocrecord.com/news/weird/article_2c833d0a-c55d-58ec-933b-bebdbf7d4ba0.htmlA Brazilian court has ordered McDonald's to pay a former franchise manager $17,500 because he gained 65 pounds while working there a dozen years. The 32-year-old man said he was forced to sample food products each day to ensure that quality standards remained high because McDonald's hired "mystery clients" to randomly visit restaurants and report on the food, service and cleanliness.
The man also said McDonald's offered free lunches to employees, adding to his caloric intake while on the job. His identity was not released.
The ruling against McDonald's was signed Tuesday by judge Joao Filho in Porto Alegre.
McDonald's can appeal the case. A local company spokesman did not immediately return calls Thursday.
Ok, so, knowing that you work in a fast-food joint where nothing (and I mean nothing) is healthy for maintaining a well-balanced diet and that you have to sample food every day.....is it not your responsibility to control what you eat before and after you work? And shouldn't you be the one to say to yourself "maybe I should get up off my ass and get some exercise?" It's disgusting how people can sue (and win the case) for their own laziness and lack of initiative to hold themselves accountable for their actions and decisions.

TANSTAAFL is outdated. Behold the successor:
"TINSTACLFFDABCMYF" (pr. Tinsta-CLIFF Dee-Abick-MIFF) "There is now such thing as company liability for free Double Angus Bacon Cheeseburgers making you fat." I prefer the olden days where if you got free food you said thanks instead of suing. Though has anyone tried an Angus Bacon Cheeseburger? OMG SOOOO GOOD.

People will look for any reason whatsoever to sue someone these days. I wonder how long before KFC starts getting sued for their Double Down?

I wonder how long before KFC starts getting sued for their Double Down? Is anyone even eating them? I tried one, and that was enough.

KFC says it's the best seller they've ever had. It said on the radio that they've sold 250,000 (or 350,000, can't remember) in Canada since it's been available here. Granted, I'm sure most of those are from people curious to see what all the fuss is about. Half of 'em will probably never eat another one. They've been selling out here in Newfoundland.

But McDonald's has salad. The only way I'd let him off the hook is if they really do "Force Feed" him the worst of the menu. If they threatened to fire him if he didn't try one of every fatty burger style a day and a large fries every hour he'd have a good point, but the article says "he felt" obligated and that's a bit of a legalese red flag. The fact he even mentions that they offered free lunches suggests he was "test-eating" his fat burgers of his own culinary will then having more for lunch. I'd sympathize with the fat version of coal miner's lung, but not, "I was surrounded by all this yummy food all day, they tempted me into obesity!"
