Privacy Statement

Satannet ("Satannet", "we", "us") runs The Satanic Network at www.satannet.com, its forums at www.satannet.com/lttd, and the Satannet mobile apps (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using the Service you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. A note about privacy in our community

Membership in Satannet may reveal, or allow others to infer, your religious or philosophical beliefs. Some laws treat that as sensitive information. We do not require your legal name: you may use a pseudonym as your display name, and you control much of what appears on your profile. Please think carefully before posting anything that identifies you, your workplace, your family, or your location. By joining, you consent to us processing information about your beliefs as part of running the Service as described in this policy.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account information: username, display name, email address, password (stored in encrypted form), date of birth, and the membership level or plan you choose.
• Profile information: photos, profile fields, interests, location, birthday, and anything else you add to your profile.
• Content: posts, comments, photos, videos, music, stories, pages, groups, forum posts, polls, reviews, reactions, and other material you post.
• Messages: private messages you send and receive through the Service.
• Verification documents: if you choose to verify your account, the identity documents you upload for review.
• Payment information: if you buy a membership, pay a joining fee, or make another purchase, the payment is handled by a third-party payment processor. We receive confirmation of the transaction and limited details (such as plan, amount, and date), not your full card number.
• Invitations: if you invite someone to join, the email addresses you enter. We use them only to send your invitation.
• Communications: messages you send to us, such as support requests and reports.

Information we collect automatically

• Log and device information: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages viewed, and the dates and times of your visits and logins. We keep a log of logins to help protect accounts.
• Mobile app information: device identifiers and push notification tokens, so we can deliver notifications you have allowed.
• Location: approximate location from your IP address, and more precise location only if you add it to your profile or content or allow location features.
• Cookies and similar technologies: see Section 9.

The archived LttD forum

Our forums include an archive of the former LttD community forum (2001-2018). Archived posts remain on the Service with the name they were originally posted under. Accounts from the old forum can no longer be used to sign in; the forums now use your Satannet account. If you wrote posts in the archive and would like them removed or anonymized, contact us (see Section 16).

3. How we use information

• To provide, run, and maintain the Service, including your profile, feed, messages, groups, pages, forums, and notifications.
• To show you content and suggestions, such as members you may know, based on your connections, interests, and activity.
• To process memberships, subscriptions, fees, and other payments.
• To verify accounts when you request verification.
• To keep the Service and our members safe: moderating content, enforcing our Terms of Service, investigating reports, and preventing spam, fraud, and abuse.
• To show advertisements, including community ads created by members (see Section 6).
• To communicate with you about your account, security, changes to the Service, and, where you have agreed, news and updates.
• To understand how the Service is used so we can improve it.
• To comply with the law and respond to lawful requests.

4. Staff connections and moderator access

To keep the community safe, Satannet automatically connects certain staff accounts (administrators and moderators) to every member as friends. This happens when you sign up, and existing members have also been connected. You should know the following:

• These staff friendships cannot be removed. If you remove, block, or decline one of these accounts, the friendship is restored automatically.
• Staff can see content you share with "Friends". Because these accounts are your friends, they can see posts, photos, and other content you limit to friends, in the same way your other friends can.
• Why we do this: so that staff can review activity for harassment, threats, illegal content, spam, and other violations of our Terms of Service, including in content that is not public.
• What staff do not do: staff do not routinely read your private messages. Messages may be reviewed when they are reported to us, when needed to investigate a serious safety issue or Terms of Service violation, or when required by law.
• Technical access: like any online service, our administrators can technically access stored information, including content marked "Only Me", when necessary to operate, secure, or troubleshoot the Service or to comply with the law. We limit this access to those purposes.

If you are not comfortable with staff being able to see content you share with friends, please do not share that content on the Service.

5. How information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:

• With other members, as you choose: what other people see depends on your privacy settings and on who you share each item with. Your display name, profile photo, and anything you post publicly can be seen by anyone, including people who are not members and search engines. Forum posts are public unless posted in a restricted forum.
• With staff: as described in Section 4.
• With service providers: companies that help us run the Service, such as web hosting, email delivery, push notification services, payment processors, the developers of our mobile apps and software, and artificial intelligence providers (see Section 7). They may use your information only to provide services to us.
• For legal reasons and safety: when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law or legal process, or is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Satannet, our members, or others, including reporting suspected child exploitation to the authorities.
• Business transfers: if Satannet is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
• With your consent: in any other case where you ask us to or agree that we may.

6. Advertising

The Service may show advertisements, including community ads created by members and businesses. Ads may be shown to you based on information such as your profile, interests, membership level, and general location. Advertisers receive summary statistics (such as views and clicks), not your personal information. We do not give advertisers your contact details or your private content.

7. Artificial intelligence features

Some optional features use artificial intelligence, for example to help write or generate content. When you use these features, the text or other input you provide is sent to our AI provider to produce the result. Please do not enter sensitive personal information into AI features. Content you do not submit to an AI feature is not sent to the AI provider.

8. Identity verification

Verification is optional. If you submit identity documents, they are used only to review your verification request and to prevent fraud and impersonation. Access is limited to staff who review requests. We keep documents only as long as needed for verification and our legitimate records, and then delete them. You may ask us to delete your verification documents at any time; doing so may remove your verified status.

9. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in (including between the main site and the forums), remember your settings, protect accounts, and understand how the Service is used. You can control cookies through your browser, but the Service will not work properly without the cookies needed to keep you signed in.

10. Your choices and rights

• Privacy settings: you can control who sees your profile and much of your content in your account settings, and choose who each post is shared with.
• Access and correction: you can view and edit most of your information in your account and profile settings.
• Deletion: you can delete content you have posted, and you can delete your account from your account settings. Some information may remain for a limited time in backups, in content you shared with others (such as messages in their inbox), and where we must keep it for legal reasons.
• Notifications and email: you can change your notification and email preferences in your settings, and turn off push notifications in your browser or device settings.
• Additional rights: depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of your information, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict certain uses, withdraw consent, and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To make a request, contact us (see Section 16). We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

11. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable time, except where we need to keep it to resolve disputes, enforce our Terms, prevent abuse, or comply with the law. Login logs are kept for a limited period for security.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted passwords and access controls. No online service is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password and keep it private. Tell us right away if you believe your account has been compromised.

13. Age requirement

The Service is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that someone under 18 has created an account, we will delete it. If you believe a minor is using the Service, please contact us. See also our Child Safety Policy.

14. International users

The Service is operated from, and our servers are located in, the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will let you know through the Service or by email before they take effect. The effective date at the top shows when this policy was last updated. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
